The Australian Platinum Koala 1 oz series began in 1988 and was popular worldwide because it followed other world mints in creating a pure platinum coin which was also legal tender.

The series was struck in a number of sizes: 1/20^th oz, 1/10 oz, ¼ oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 10 oz and kilo size and not all of these denominations are readily available today.

The front of this popular bullion coin depicts the Queen of Australia, Elizabeth II and the reverse features the Australian Koala bear which also plays well in the Japanese jewelry trade.
