The Peace Silver Dollar Circulated is one of America’s most iconic examples of what has become known as the “golden age” of legal tender coins. A time when circulating legal tender was actually made from real silver. The Peace Silver Dollar Circulated was designed by Anthony de Francisci, an Italian immigrant who came to America to pursue the American dream. His wife, Maria Cafarelli was used as the model for Liberty and the reverse depicts the American Eagle required by Congress.
The Peace Silver Dollar Circulated was struck between 1921 and 1935 and saw wide circulation in this country and abroad. These coins were minted at many mints and the mint mark can be found on the reverse of the coin next to the lower portion of the Eagle’s tail. Approximately 270 million coins were struck in .900 fine silver.
Each Peace Silver Dollar Circulated coin contains 0.77 ounce of pure silver and circulated examples trade for a premium over their silver content because of their history and popularity. Because these silver dollars were produced in large quantities they generally follow the silver market and have become a popular silver bullion choice for those looking for barter material. At times the premium on these legal tender coins moves higher because of demand and the fact that they are no longer in production.
